Inspired by  spikes that had been places to stop the homeless from sleeping there. Businesses not wanting to be associated with the homeless. People being forced to move elsewhere  I saw the artist collective ‘Space, Not Spikes’ that had placed a mattress over these spikes turning it into a comfortable living area…with a bookcase attached.

I wanted to show the two extremes of comfort and the uncomfortable. I was wanting to make the viewer feel uncomfortable especially with the girl jumping for joy and it turning into shock the moment it would change. The spike being the difference between joy and horror.
